tumblr.

Okay, so tumblr maybe isn’t the best website to run a text based blog, but whatever. Had a meeting about dissertations this morning. Not one of my best mornings. I’m not sure I’m going to be able to finish some the 3,000 word essays I’ve got this year, never mind a 12,000 word one! And the massive time we have to do it in won’t help. Working to short deadlines is easier. If I have a piece of work in in a year, then I’m going to go on the Playstation for at 10 out of those 12 months and not do any work. At least it’s on something I choose to do which is video games (a massive surprise to everybody I assume), or ‘the virtual’ as it sounds more academic.

Honestly. What is this country doing? I’ve been reading comments on blogs about the upcoming referendum on the UK voting system, and it almost seems like most of the people in good old Blighty are going to vote NO to AV. What? What?! Can you be serious? Let me just discuss this with myself…
First, FPTP has led us into the situation we are in now. The god-awful Tories trying to privatise everything in a Thatcher-esque mission to murder what little good things we have in this country. The NHS!!! The NH-fucking-S! Do people realise that a lot of other countries are more than impressed with out NHS? Why is Cameron the fucktard trying to kill it!? All the while, the Liberal Democrats are licking his arse! How do the Lib Dems come about licking a Tory’s arse? Nick Clegg is the answer. He got the Lib Dems popular and then less popular than they started out in the space of a year! He is a lying, back-stabbing fool who should have said no to the Tories because the two parties are opposite ends of the spectrum.
So then the Tories gave the Lib Dems this. A chance to change to AV. Now AV is not ideal, it is in no way the best system there is, but it is so much better than FPTFP (no that’s not a typo). However, if you think that because AV is not the ideal we best stick with FPTP, then think again. If we stay with FPTP, the Tories will take this to mean that the public do not want electoral reform, and we will return to the “will it be Labour or Tory this year?” in which case no one will get a referendum. The conservatives will never support it, and as long as Labour is the other main party with a chance of getting in then they won’t want to change the voting system either.
I’m not going to steam on about this much longer. And I know that my arguments are hardly proper, and are mostly emphatic, but this is how I feel.
If this country votes no to AV, I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do. I’ll be living in a country where more than half (of the voters) are morons. There is no polite way to say it. I think either way I’m going to get out of this country as soon as possible, and renounce my British Citizenship, because it will be a joke to the rest of the rest of the free, forward thinking, world.
For a more extensive and valid list of arguments against voting NO2AV and for voting YES2AV please vist…

Exam Revision

In the library. Revising. I am soooo bored! My face is stuck in a frown. Need to get some more work done. Revising the topic of death! How morbid.

Tally-Hoe!

I sit in my little sister’s bedroom (I’m at home for the holidays) mulling over my blog, and wondering what to write next. I just don’t know, I have very little creativity whatsoever! I kind of need telling what to write, then I can be creative with it. So I thought I’d take a look at some recent news, and see if I can spin it on it’s head (I know it’s not very original, but what the hell).

First up…

Long Time…No Blog

It has been a long time (if you count a couple of weeks a long time :/) since I last blogged. But it seems that my life is totally uninteresting in all of its aspects. I could bore the seven followers I actually do have with stories of how me and the flat-mates went to play in the snow last week, or how I have a test in formal logic next Thursday, but these are all negligible and utterly meaningless. I could do another blog about some Philosophy I learnt (being that I’m a Philosophy student), but that wasn’t really my best blog was it??? I could post some of my essays of coursework from sixth form which I haven’t uploaded yet, but Soloman and His Bucket of Crabs isn’t a literary masterpiece which is going to win me a Galaxy Book Award (alternative book awards are available)! So instead, I am rambling about life’s inexplicable boringness.

The Remembrance Fiasco

Right, going to say something that might be a bit controversial…

First, the thing with the burning poppies and shouting ‘British Troops burn in Hell’, is disgusting. I despise them for their ignorance and their disrespect. I do not wish they died or are burnt or wish any kind of retaliation upon them, that makes everyone else as bad as them. The main problem is the amount of attention this is getting. By suddenly going and creating all these pages about ‘burning turbans’ or ‘don’t hate on all the Muslims because it was only 35 people’, they are getting what they want… attention. They are creating enough hype so that people who are intelligent enough to not argue on basis of race/faith, because it is wrong, are going to start arguing on basis of race/faith. It starts up these race/faith related arguments which lead to the Bradford riots a few years back.

Secondly, another problem arises from everyone’s opinion and viewpoint on this. So, it is correct that it was only 35 ignorant, arrogant people did this, not the whole religion, so please don’t start wishing the whole religion ill fate.  However, I can see that if something like this had happened but in reverse, the English/White/whatever community would see serious opposition, not only from the people of that country/religion, but from the governments and leaders. But finally, what they did is wrong and I don’t think they understand that it was these troops they are telling to ‘burn in Hell’ that fought against their oppression by Hitler, as he was killing Muslims as well as Jews.

Listen, I don’t want to stir up any fiery debates, I just wanted everyone to think about what good they are actually doing by making some silly group, or making a rather offensive status. There is no good that will come of hate!

Bonfire Night is upon us!!! This is one of my favourite events of the year! (Even more so because it directly follows from Halloween, which is crap). I’m going to a bonfire tonight in Manchester, it is going to be a good night… some sparklers, cigarettes and some wine/kopparburg winter fruits! I love the look and feel at this time of year, where people huddle together in massive coats, watching an amazing fireworks display. Its almost as good as that of Christmas, but there are multiple looks and feels at Christmas that it can’t be matched. Also, around Halloween/Bonfire night, when it is firmly in Autumn, the best fashion comes out, the long coats, flowing scarves and the fantastic array of gloves and hats! I do really love this time of year!

Patrick Stump Comeback???

WOW! Patrick Stump (of Fall Out Boy if you live under a rock) is looking mighty fine nowadays!!! I just want to eat him up in this picture!!! NOM! Either way this is part of his recent video (well Jan 2010) where he drops a massive hint (well a direct mention) of a solo album! It looks all set to be a soully, poppy, dancey set of tracks which he claims will be all written, recorded and performed by him individually!!!

As you may have found out, that other member of Fall Out Boy, I can’t quite remember his name… he wasn’t talked about a lot… Oh yeah! Pete Wentz is currently working on his project called Black Cards. It is a electro pop band which could be set to be quite successful, though I doubt it because generally people dislike Pete (I know I do anyway). Patrick Stump does deserve to be successful away from Pete, because he is immensely talented, with his amazing voice and vocal range, and his multi-instrumentalist tendencies.

I would love to walk into a music store in the next month and buy both Pete’s and Patrick’s projects, but its not going to happen. Black Cards album is rumoured for 2011, and Stumpy doesn’t even have rumours! So it looks like I’ll just have to find some comfort in Kanye West’s new album on the 22nd of November! That will be shit hot! It already sends my ears into orgasmic spasms just listening to the snippet of “All Of The Lights”. I’ll probably be talking about Kanye next month, but I’ll keep tabs on both Patrick and Pete for now (Patrick more so though)!

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

The first track from Sky Larkin’s new album Kaleide. It is a fun, dancy song added to with the amazing voice of Katie Harkin bursting out those lyrics. Enjoy and don’t forget to buy the album from iTunes/Amazon/Play.com or their own website.

La Roux Live!

To be fair, I went to see La Roux in May, but it only just occurred to me to write a little piece about it.

It was amazing to say the least. I’ll admit, she’s no Lady Gaga, and by that I mean, she isn’t going to cover herself in blood and fake cannibalism to make a show enthralling. She doesn’t need to. Just watching her sing was enthralling enough. Not to say that Lady Gaga’s over-the-top performance is bad. A little (or a lot of) flamboyancy never hurt anyone!

How Things Are…

That is a rather broad title; ‘How things are…’ It could mean a number of things, and I’m a Philosophy student so could probably go on and on about how things are, as in how they exist, but I will refrain. However, I am just going to mention Plato and, indeed, Socrates’ argument to the immortality of the soul (or life after death).

Manchester

(This is a post from a while back on Blogger, but I thought it deserved to make it across to Tumblr)

I haven’t exactly been posting every week like I said I would (slap myself on the wrist), so I’m going to update you on the goings on in my life!

Manchester! Oh how it has enthralled me in the last week I have been here! I moved from Bradford because I got into Manchester Met to do Philosophy. The city is so different! Buses that run all night, and even like every 15 minutes after midnight! In Bradford, there are no buses after midnight, and even then the 624 (which I had to get everyday) was regular to only every half an hour during peak times! The buzz, the people, the Uni… it all is quite overwhelming. However, it doesn’t really feel like I’ve gone that far, that it is MEGA-different, it only feels like a part of Bradford I have never explored, or even cared to explore. Fresher’s week was an utter disappointment, I don’t know where to go or who to go there with. But apart from those small things I’m okay.

Soloman and His Bucket of Crabs

I thought I would upload a funny story I had written for my A-Level English coursework. I’m not sure to its quality, but it got me an A grade!! :)

The Random Adventures of Solomon and his Crabs
From time to time, there comes a man who can overcome all obstacles. A man who can defeat all evil. A man who fearlessly fights the war for the survival of the human race. Sadly, this man died when a small bucket of crabs fell through a hole in space and smashed into his right temple. This peculiar event is actually more common than you think, on average it happens two-hundred and seventy-six thousand times a day in the Milky Way alone. Even more peculiar is that the small bucket of crabs travelled almost instantaneously from a small planet, 20 million light-years away, called Zalbriff.

The Blog

Anyone glancing over this ever so greatly produced blog may be wondering why it is exactly that I have decided to name my blog Motherfucking disco. Basically, I could not think of anything to call it at that moment, and since I have no running theme that I could think of I decided that a random name out of the massive imaginary hat inside my brain would suffice.

The reason I started such a blog is so that I can start to make a name for myself, I am only 18, but I don’t want to end up being forgotten about, or just being some normal run of the mill John Doe (does that make me sound like a unidentified corpse???) but someone who at least a few people in the blogosphere (Google Chrome’s spell check is really starting to get on my nerves, it doesn’t even know Google) will go, ‘Oh yeah! I know him!”

I have toyed with the idea of Vlogging (add to dictionary) on Youtube, as I have been watching Shane Dawsonsxephil and What the Buck? and decided that wasn’t for me because I am not so confident on camera, and plus I really can’t afford to have to buy a video camera and video editing software, etcetera. However, I am creative when it comes to writing and even photography. So, every week, or even more often than that, I am going to update my blog with everything funny, humorous, intellectual, thought-provoking and weird.

Update: My blog has gone through many name changes, just if you were wondering why my blog isn’t called motherfucking disco any more.
